About BTC.ATH

BTC.ATH is a daily Bitcoin art project inspired by the conceptual artist On Kawara (1932-2014) and his legendary “Date Paintings” series.

The Inspiration: On Kawara

Beginning in 1966, On Kawara created thousands of canvases, each displaying nothing more than the date on which it was painted. These works, which he called “Today” paintings, were meticulously crafted — each featured the date in the language and format of the country where it was made, rendered in white text on a solid color background.

Kawara produced these paintings like clockwork, sometimes making multiple paintings in a single day, other times skipping days entirely. When he could not complete a painting on its designated date, he simply did not make one for that day. The incomplete, imperfect record became part of the work’s power.

BTC.ATH: The Concept

This project applies Kawara’s temporal obsession to Bitcoin. Each day at market close, we capture three data points:

  • The Date — The day’s date in bold typography
  • The Price — Bitcoin’s closing price in USD
  • Days Since ATH — The count from the all-time high

Like Kawara’s paintings, each piece uses color to convey meaning: green for up days, red for down days.

The Archive

Over time, this creates a visual history of Bitcoin’s journey — not just the numbers, but the rhythm of the market, the psychology of traders, and the relentless passage of time in the world’s most important digital asset.

One day. One price. One piece of art.
